As a project moves forward, layouts are refined, selections change, dimensions are confirmed, client decisions are made, and new information comes in from contractors, architects, vendors, and other project partners. That means there is almost always something that needs to be revised or updated.
A 4Dbiz Virtual Design Assistant can take this ongoing drafting work off your plate. You provide the redlines, markups, or other design direction, and a Design Assistant can make the corresponding revisions and updates to your drawings.
How does 4Dbiz support redlines, revisions, and updates to drawings?
Our Virtual Design Assistants work from the redlines, markups, and project information you provide to make revisions and maintain your drawings throughout the design process.
Here’s How We Support You:
Revisions from Redlines and Markups
Provide your redlined or marked-up drawings, and we can make the requested revisions within the working files.
Ongoing Design Updates
As layouts, selections, finishes, fixtures, cabinetry, millwork, lighting, dimensions, and other design details evolve, we can update the applicable drawings to reflect your latest design direction.
Drawing Set Updates
When a change affects more than one drawing, we can carry the updated information through the applicable portions of the drawing set to help maintain consistency across your documentation.
Architect, Contractor, and Consultant Updates
When new or revised information is received from architects, contractors, vendors, or other project partners, we can incorporate the applicable information into your drawings based on your direction.
Dimensions, Notes, and Annotations
We can revise dimensions, notes, callouts, labels, references, and other annotations as project information changes.
Drawing Coordination
When revisions affect related documentation, we can update applicable floor plans, elevations, reflected ceiling plans, millwork drawings, and other drawings so the project documentation remains coordinated.
Drawing Cleanup and Organization
As drawings move through multiple rounds of revisions, we help keep working files clean, organized, and up to date.
Drafting Standards and Consistency
We follow your established layers, line weights, title blocks, page layouts, notation styles, and other drafting standards so revisions remain consistent with the rest of your documentation.
General Process Questions
When you say my Design Assistant can take over redlines, what does that mean?
Your Design Assistant is not responsible for determining what should be redlined or making independent design decisions on your behalf. You provide the redlines, markups, or other revision direction, and your Design Assistant takes over the drafting work required to implement those changes.
This allows you to remain in control of the design while delegating the time-consuming process of carrying your decisions through the drawings.
How do I provide redlines and revision direction to my Design Assistant?
Upload your redlined drawings directly to the corresponding task within the 4Dbiz Portal along with any additional instructions or supporting information your Design Assistant may need. You can provide digitally marked-up PDFs, scanned handwritten redlines, sketches, notes, or other clearly documented revision direction.
How detailed do my redlines need to be in order for my Design Assistant to implement the revisions?
Your redlines should clearly communicate the changes you want made and include any dimensions, selections, notes, references, or other information your Design Assistant needs to accurately complete the revision.
If something is unclear or additional design direction is needed, your Design Assistant will reach out for clarification rather than making assumptions about your intent.
Do all drawing updates need to come from redlines?
No. Redlines are just one way to communicate revisions. You may also provide updated selections, dimensions, specifications, sketches, client decisions, field information, contractor notes, consultant drawings, or written instructions that require changes to the project documentation.
Your Design Assistant can work from the information and direction you provide to make the applicable updates.
Can my Design Assistant handle multiple rounds of revisions?
Yes. In fact, this is where having ongoing Design Assistant support can be especially valuable.
As projects progress through multiple rounds of design development, client feedback, coordination, and documentation, you can continue providing redlines and updated project information for your Assistant to incorporate.
Rather than returning to the drafting software yourself after every round of changes, the revision process can become an ongoing part of what you delegate to your Design Assistant.
Can my Design Assistant update multiple drawings when one revision affects the drawing set?
Yes. If a revision needs to be reflected in multiple places, your Design Assistant can update the applicable drawings based on the direction you provide. For example, a change may need to be carried through a floor plan, related elevations, reflected ceiling plan, cabinetry drawings, or other project documentation.
Providing clear direction about the scope of the revision helps your Design Assistant understand where the change needs to be reflected.
Can my Design Assistant incorporate updates from architects, contractors, or other project partners?
Yes. You can provide updated drawings, markups, notes, specifications, or other information received from project partners along with your direction about what should be incorporated into your documentation.
Your Design Assistant will work from the information and direction you provide rather than independently determining which changes should be made.
Will my Design Assistant follow my drafting standards when making revisions?
Absolutely. During onboarding, we’ll review your existing drafting standards, layers, line weights, title blocks, notation styles, page layouts, and documentation preferences. The goal is for the drawings to feel like a seamless extension of your studio.
